Advice for mild eye disorder/irritation

Updated

Suspicion of a mild eye disorder (Open eye without signs of pain and only mildly increased tear flow):

As we just discussed in our conversation, it looks like that your pet has a mild irritation to the eye.

Initially, you can rinse the eye and the surroundings of the eye:

- Buy sterile saline ampoules at the pharmacy. There are smaller packages that are suitable to use.

- you may rinse the eye with cooled boiled water if saline is not available.

- Rinse thoroughly, approx. 10-15 ml of saline solution from top to bottom in the eye and then wipe the corner of the eye with a tissue or cotton swab.

- Rinse the eye 2-3 times daily. It is important to clean the eye of secretions and mucus

If the signs do not improve within 1-2 days, or if there are signs of increased tear production, discharge or pus near the eye, swelling of the eye, increased blink reflex or if there are signs of pain, you must contact your local veterinarian in order to on a clinical examination of the eye as soon as possible.
